Design Tips & Tricks

If you're just getting started with design don’t worry, you don’t need a full renovation to make your space feel fresh and modern. When I first started out, I used to rearrange my space all the time just to try new ideas and figure out what worked. Honestly, it taught me so much about design, just by experimenting with what I already had.

Here are a few small tricks that can make a big difference:

  • Play with shelf styling
Start with items you already own, books, candles, vases, or small art pieces. Group them in odd numbers, layer by height, and leave some breathing room. Don’t be afraid to mix textures or add a small plant for life and movement.

  • Use natural tones with a pop of contrast
Stick to soft neutrals like cream, sand, and warm wood tones, then add a cool toned accent like deep green, slate blue, or even matte black. It adds just enough contrast to feel modern without overwhelming the space.

  • Mix materials for a lived in look
Combine things like linen, stone, metal, and wood. For example, pair a woven basket with a marble tray and a ceramic vase, it adds depth and interest, even in the simplest corner.

Design is meant to be fun and personal, so don’t be afraid to try things out and make changes over time. You’d be surprised how much you can learn just by styling what’s already in your home.
